TCL Communication Previews Multiple 5G Devices at Mobile World Congress 2019

This week at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, TCL Communication demonstrated the company’s first functional 5G USB data terminal. Currently in its pre-launch stage, the device highlights the partnership between TCL Communication and China Mobile in the 5G commercial terminal business; TCL plans to launch the device in Q2 2019 as its first 5G terminal product, becoming one of the first manufacturers to do so. Additionally, TCL Communication exhibited 5G CPE and smartphone devices at the Mobile World Congress; showcasing 5G products in multiple categories as a key proof-point of the company’s comprehensive technical layout and product planning for the next generation in connectivity.

TCL’s 5G USB data terminal will make it possible for PC end users to enjoy high-speed rates of 4Gbps downlink and 2Gbps uplink. At the same time, it uses SA networking mode, n41 and n78 frequency band, 200M bandwidth, 4x4 MIMO and other solutions to provide consumers with quick and easy access to productivity tools, software services and high-graphic games in the cloud. The terminal is equipped with a large 4000mAh battery to ensure full-day use, as well as the MediaTek Helio M70, the chipmaker’s first-generation 5G chip. It also supports independent networking (SA) and non-independent networking (NSA), and 4G/5G multi-mode multi-frequency, providing users with multi-entry access services worldwide.

“It’s essential that we take advantage of the many opportunities in this nascent field, and we play an important role through providing aid and resources to the 5G trials and commercial projects of our operators’ partners,” said Charles ZOU, General Manager of Global R&D Centerof TCL Communicationat the 2019 Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Summit held by China Mobile in Barcelona today. “TCL Communication will continue the exploration of 5G technology and focus on the research and development of terminal products such as smartphones, tablets, data terminals, and Internet of Things. TCL is happy to be one of the first manufacturers to launch 5G products.”

"The arrival of 5G will bring huge commercial demand to the terminal industry, and MediaTek fully supports mobile phone manufacturers to quickly achieve new growth,” said TL Lee, General Manager of MediaTek Wireless Communications Business Unit.“Our Helio M70 5G chip will help mobile phone manufacturers who are at the forefront of 5G to promote the sustainable development of the industry and enhance the mobile experience."

At Mobile World Congress, TCL Communication also demonstrated a number of performance indicators of the TCL 5G USB data terminal using Anritsu 5G TE test equipment. This demonstration showed that the company solved the key difficulties of power consumption and heat dissipation, scheme design and antenna design of the whole machine, successfully realized the physical layer protocol throughput rate, and met the peak rate requirement of the terminal.

Last year as one of the representatives of ten mainstream terminal manufacturers, TCL Communication took the lead in joining the 5G Terminal Pioneer Program initiated by China Mobile. Under the joint efforts of partners, TCL Communication has actively participated in standard customization, developed 5G terminal technology solutions based on user needs, and comprehensively laid out the application scenarios and product ecology, and has achieved stage results.

As a pioneer in the 5G field, TCL Communication has fully developed 5G R&D as early as 2015, and actively participated in standard customization. It was the first to implement the pre-5G end-to-end solution demonstration at MWC last year. Today TCL Communication has 5G innovation labs in Paris, France and Shanghai, China, and an international team staffed with PhDs, experts and engineers.
